Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad (PEVRS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving as the primary emergency medical services provider to the heart of Virginia, which includes Farmville and Prince Edward County. Founded in 1969, our agency has gone from a completely volunteer-run organization to a combination agency, with staff and volunteers working together to answer over 3,000 emergency calls each year.
Job Description:
PEVRS seeks multiple part-time Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers, who will provide emergency medical care to patients in various situations. You will be responsible for assessing patients, delivering appropriate medical interventions, and ensuring safe transportation to medical facilities. This position requires critical thinking, strong problem solving skills, strong communications skills, and the ability to remain effective while under pressure.
The responsibilities for the position include:
- Conducting thorough patient assessments to determine the nature and extent of injuries or illness.
- Performing triage to prioritize patient care based on the severity of their condition.
- Administering medications and interventions as per protocols and guidelines.
- Monitoring vital signs and documenting changes in patient condition accurately.
- Utilizing medical terminology effectively when communicating with healthcare professionals.
- Providing compassionate patient care while maintaining professionalism at all times.
- Collaborating with other emergency response team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Qualifications & Requirements
A successful applicant must be able to work in a team environment and exercise significant initiative, resourcefulness and sound judgment. In addition, a successful applicant should possess a strong foundation in Emergency Medical Services.
Required are:
- Knowledge of physiology and human anatomy relevant to emergency medical care.
- Familiarity with vital signs monitoring, medical technologies, and assessment techniques.
- Proficiency in airway management techniques and procedures.
- Experience in administering medications (within the provider’s scope of practice) as they relate to patient care.
- Must have and maintain valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operation Course) certifications (required)
- Must have or attain a valid Virginia driver’s license (required)
- Must have a Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (VAOEMS) EMT Certification or higher (required)
- Experience working in an emergency medical setting for at least one year (preferred)
Salary & Benefits
This is a part-time position, paying $18-$22 per hour based on experience. The expected total hours each month range from 12-36 hours with frequent opportunity for more.
Benefits include continuing education credits, a flexible schedule, professional development assistance and agency uniform allowance.
This position does not include any health, dental or vision benefits.
