    Position Summary
    The Advising Mentor provides part-time, on-site support to new teachers throughout the school year. This role is ideal for former educators who bring strong instruction and classroom experience. The Advising Mentor will assist new staff with classroom management, acclimating school procedures and expectations, and developing effective instructional routines. The schedule will be determined collaboratively by the school administration and the mentor.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    • Provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and support to new teachers in classroom management, organization, and instructional routines.
    • Assist new teachers in understanding school and division expectations, policies, and procedures.
    • Conduct classroom observations and offer constructive, strength-based feedback.
    • Model effective instructional and management strategies as needed.
    • Support new teachers in building positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
    • Collaborate with school administrators to identify areas where new teachers may need additional assistance.
    • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
    • Submit brief documentation of support provided, as requested by the administration.
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    • Former licensed or licensed teacher with successful teaching experience.
    • Strong knowledge of effective classroom management and instructional practices.
    • Ability to communicate clearly, coach adults, and maintain a supportive, non-evaluative stance.
    • Flexible schedule and willingness to adjust hours based on school needs.
    • Demonstrated professionalism and commitment to supporting teacher growth.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Part-time Grant Funded position. The schedule will be developed jointly by the school administration and the mentor teacher based on school needs and the mentor’s availability.

    EVALUATION

    Performance of the position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Prince Edward County School Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
