- Assist with preparation and production of meals following USDA meal pattern requirements and standardized recipes
- Support scratch cooking and fresh food preparation as directed
- Measure, portion, and assemble food items for breakfast, lunch, and special meal services
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and correctly after appropriate training
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and HACCP procedures
- Set up serving lines, grab-and-go areas, and service stations
- Serve meals to students in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner
- Ensure required meal components and correct portion sizes are offered
- Assist with accommodating special dietary needs as directed
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately
- Handle cash and student meal accounts according to established procedures
- Maintain accurate meal counts and protect student confidentiality
- Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, serving lines, equipment, and utensils
- Wash dishes, trays, and cookware following approved sanitation procedures
- Assist with daily closing duties and periodic deep cleaning
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized kitchen and storage environment
- Assist with receiving, storing, rotating, and inventorying food and supplies
- Support special events, schedule changes, non-congregate meal service, or emergency operations as needed
- Work cooperatively with cafeteria staff, school staff, and supervisors
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to learn new tasks and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned

- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain regular attendance
- Previous food service experience preferred but not required
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift frequently
- Ability to lift and carry up to 4050 pounds, with or without assistance
- Ability to work in an environment with exposure to heat, cold, and noise
- Fast-paced school kitchen and cafeteria environment
- Exposure to commercial kitchen equipment, cleaning chemicals, and temperature variations
- Performance of the position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Prince Edward County School Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.

Position Title: Assistant Food Service Staff Child Nutrition
Department: Child Nutrition Program
Reports To: Cafeteria Manager / Child Nutrition Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Terms of Employment: Ten-month employment. Salary to be determined by the school board.
Contract / Schedule: School-year position; workdays and hours determined by school schedule. Additional days may be required for training, preparation, or end-of-year cleanup
Position Purpose: The Assistant Food Service Staff assists with the daily operation of the Prince Edward County Public Schools Child Nutrition Program by supporting food preparation, meal service, cashiering, cleaning, and sanitation. This position helps ensure students receive nutritious, appealing meals in compliance with USDA, Virginia Department of Education, and Prince Edward County Public Schools regulations.
