As our Director of Clinical Services (DCS) RN - DON, you will have the rare opportunity to shape the clinical operations and alongside, the clinical foundation of this organization from the ground up. This position is the epitome of nurse leadership; it combines leadership and nursing care with hands-on involvement.

Position Summary:

The Director of Clinical Services provides overall leadership, direction, training and supervision for the hospice clinical program. This role ensures compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation (42 CFR Part 418), Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 333-035), and ACHC accreditation standards, while fostering a culture of compassion, excellence, and interdisciplinary collaboration and reports to the Executive Director / Administrator and governing body.

This role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Overseeing the provision of all clinical hospice services
  • Managing daily clinical operations, personnel, and resource allocation
  • Ensuring compliance, quality improvement, and regulatory readiness
  • Serving as the organization's nursing leader and liaison with the Governing Body
  • Patient visits during early census
  • New and ongoing training/orientation of clinical staff
  • Emergency Preparedness Protocols
  • Clinical policy & procedure oversight/updates

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all clinical staff, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care and compliance standards are met.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate nursing and clinical interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ensure initial and ongoing assessments of patients, coordination of care, and implementation of individualized care plans.
  • Lead Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) meetings in collaboration with the Medical Director.
  • Ensure clinical staff education, competency, and performance reviews are conducted per policy.
  • Oversee infection control, medication management, and safety protocols.
  • Direct day-to-day clinical operations of the hospice program and personnel, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and accrediting body requirements.
  • Support clinical billing as pertains to oversight and ICD10 coding.
  • Serve as the clinical liaison to the Governing Body, reporting on the clinical quality, compliance, staffing, and overall program health.
  • Hire, train, evaluate and terminate clinical organization personnel.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical policies and procedures.
  • Lead/support the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
  • Assure compliance with all hospice related local, state and federal laws maintain compliance to the ACHC standards.
  • Participate in budgeting, census development, and strategic planning, when necessary.
  • Supervise and facilitate supply, medication and DME ordering associated to patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in hospice leadership, as required by the accrediting body.
  • Have an understanding of hospice billing / ICD10
  • Familiarity of hospice policy & procedure expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct personnel.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, dealing tactfully with customers and the community.
  • Possess excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess knowledge of applicable governmental regulations and ACHC standards as pertains to hospice care in Oregon.
  • Demonstrated commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
