Job Summary
The Lead Laborer plays a key role in supporting industrial and facility service operations. This position performs physically demanding work in environments requiring strict safety compliance, teamwork, and site-specific procedures. In addition to performing labor tasks, the Lead Laborer is responsible for guiding and coordinating other laborers, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and according to company standards. This role supports supervisors with task assignments, training, and daily reporting.
Key Responsibilities
LaborIndustrial Cleaning Duties
Shovel ash/trash build-up from under and around conveyor systems and hoppers; transport materials using wheelbarrows
Perform general plant clean-up, including removal of trash, debris, and waste from repair or maintenance activities
Clean inside hoppers and boilers (requires confined space entry)
Serve as Confined Space Attendant when assigned (Qualification required)
Perform fire watch duties during hot work or designated tasks (Qualification required)
Sweep, shovel, and power wash floors, buildings and work areas
Clean and ensure safe access to confined space entry doors for inspections and maintenance
Assist with painting, surface preparation, and general touch-up work
Dust machinery, structural components, and workspaces
Operate basic tools and follow site-specific safety procedures
Support team with additional tasks as directed by supervisors
Operate machinery as plant requires (Dingo, Manlift, etc.; qualifications required)
Lead Responsibilities
Lead daily work activities and guide laborers in safe work performance
Assign tasks as directed by supervisors and ensure proper execution
Inspect completed tasks for safety and quality compliance
Train new or less experienced laborers on proper techniques, PPE usage, and site procedures
Serve as point of contact between labor crew and supervisor for task updates, safety concerns, and progress reporting
Monitor job progress and communicate any delays, hazards, or resource needs to management
Verify PPE compliance and enforce safety rules within the labor crew
Assist supervisors in documenting attendance, incident details, and completion reports when required
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in industrial cleaning, maintenance, or facility services
Prior experience leading crews or coordinating work tasks (preferred)
Familiarity with confined space and fire watch procedures
Ability to follow and communicate instructions clearly to team members
Requirements
Physically able to lift, push, or pull over 50 lbs.
Able to perform tasks requiring reaching, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods
Comfortable working at heights over 4 feet and in confined spaces
Able to work in high-temperature environments (90F )
Must wear and work in full personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe boots, respirator, gloves, coveralls, and safety harness
