Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Level 3 Refrigeration Technician is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of commercial refrigeration systems. This position requires a high degree of technical skill, independence, and leadership in the field. The Level 3 Technician acts as a subject-matter expert on complex systems, assists in training junior technicians, and ensures service quality aligns with Prime Refrigeration’s performance and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on commercial refrigeration systems, including rack systems, parallel systems, VFDs, and complex control networks.
- Identify and resolve refrigerant, electrical, and mechanical system failures with minimal supervision.
- Conduct system performance testing and calibration to ensure energy efficiency and equipment reliability.
- Install, program, and troubleshoot electronic control systems and monitoring platforms.
- Perform system retrofits and component upgrades following EPA and manufacturer standards.
- Assist in mentoring and training Level 1–2 technicians; provide field guidance and best practices.
- Document service calls thoroughly, including parts used, recommendations, and performance metrics.
- Maintain strong communication with Service Dispatch and customers to provide timely updates and ensure client satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards at all times.
- Participate in on-call rotation and emergency response as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 4 years of commercial refrigeration or HVAC-R service experience.
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (Required).
- Strong knowledge of supermarket rack systems, electronic expansion valves, EMS controls, and heat reclaim systems.
- Ability to interpret advanced schematics, wiring diagrams, and the sequence of operation.
- Proficient in the use of gauges, meters, and digital diagnostic equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving, time management, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined or extreme-temperature environments.
- Possession of required tools for field service work.
Performance Expectations:
- Independently complete complex service calls and system repairs.
- Demonstrate mastery of diagnostic tools and control systems.
- Provide mentorship and technical support to Level 1–2 technicians.
- Maintain consistent communication and professionalism with customers and internal teams.
