Shift Schedule: Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding Federal holidays. The normal schedule is 40 hours per week and includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each workday. Schedule adjustments may be required based on facility needs and correctional-security conditions. The physician must also be available for emergencies as necessary.
How many shifts needed per month: Approximately 20 weekday shifts per month, totaling approximately 160 one-hour sessions, depending on the calendar, Federal holidays, and facility requirements
License: Current and valid medical license to practice medicine in any state within the United States
Certifications: Current American Heart Association CPR certification
Experience needed: No specific number of years stated; must be qualified and certified to practice medicine in the United States and have experience using medical equipment
Special Skills needed: Experience evaluating and treating acute and chronic medical conditions; emergency and urgent care capabilities; comprehensive history and physical examination skills; ability to review diagnostic and consultation reports; medical-record documentation proficiency; ability to provide clinical guidance to mid-level providers, nurses, and EMTs; familiarity with correctional healthcare, institutional security procedures, and Bureau of Prisons policies; ability to work with male inmate patients, including patients housed in general population, Reintegration Housing Units, and Special Housing Units
Credentialing / Onboarding time: 6 weeks to 8 weeks
Responsibilities: Provide onsite physician services to male inmates at FCC Oakdale; coordinate patient care with the Clinical Director, Medical Officer, mid-level practitioners, nurses, and EMTs; provide routine, urgent, emergency, acute, and chronic medical care; respond immediately to urgent and emergency situations; conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations; evaluate and treat inmates requiring emergency care and routine chronic-care services; review and sign diagnostic and consultation reports; provide clinical guidance to healthcare staff; maintain detailed and accurate medical records; promptly correct documentation deficiencies; complete required data-collection instruments and Government medical forms; follow applicable medical-staff bylaws, Bureau of Prisons policies, FCC Oakdale institutional requirements, and Health Services Unit procedures; maintain open communication with facility leadership; report inmate-rule violations and security concerns to appropriate Government personnel; and maintain professional boundaries with inmates.
