Shift Schedule
- Standard clinical hours based on surgical/procedure schedule
- On-call coverage required: ~1,872 hours/year
- Call-back coverage required: ~416 hours/year
- Weekdays, weekends, and holidays as required based on patient care needs
Certifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology – required
- Cardiac Anesthesiology specialization – required
- Current and active medical licensure in any U.S. state or territory – required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required
- Credentialing and privileging per VHA Directives 1100.20 and 1100.21 – required prior to start
Experience Needed: Sufficient clinical experience to perform independent cardiac anesthesiology services including on-call and call-back coverage
Special Skills Needed
- Advanced expertise in cardiac anesthesiology including management of complex cardiac surgical cases
- Proficiency in hemodynamic monitoring, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and cardiac output monitoring
- Ability to manage on-call and call-back responsibilities independently
- Strong collaboration skills with surgical and clinical teams
- Knowledge of VA policies, VHA standards, and Joint Commission requirements
- Provide cardiac anesthesiology physician services for surgical and procedural cases at RMR VAMC
- Independently manage anesthesia care for complex cardiac surgery patients
- Provide on-call cardiac anesthesiology coverage (~1,872 hours/year) as scheduled
- Respond to call-back requirements (~416 hours/year) as needed for urgent/emergent cardiac cases
- Collaborate with surgeons, nursing staff, and the care team to ensure safe and effective perioperative management
- Document all anesthesia services accurately in the VA electronic health record system
- Comply with all VHA, Medical Center, and Anesthesiology department regulations, directives, policies, and procedures
- Complete all VA mandatory training requirements
