Job Summary: The Corporate Controller is accountable and responsible for providing direct support to the CEO in the development, implementation and compliance with the Company’s accounting policies, procedures and internal controls. This includes all reporting and compliance requirements of any and all entities. The Corporate Controller will direct the general operational accounting activities of the Holding company and all other assigned entities. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the accounting function at Prime and its Accounting, AP, Procurement, Treasury and Asset Management teams. Responsibilities include treasury management, accounts payable, fixed assets, monthly GL close, balance sheet account reconciliations, intercompany transactions/reconciliations and any other general ledger activity ensuring data integrity and accuracy in the underlying system. The Corporate Controller will prepare monthly financial statements for all entities assigned as needed or requested.

 

Job Responsibilities: Including but not limited to

  • Supervise Accounting Team, ensuring effective policies, procedures and internal controls are followed.
  • Oversee daily/monthly/quarterly/annual accounting functions.
  • Control all balance sheet accounts on a GAAP and/or Tax basis of accounting.
  • Track all fixed assets and account for depreciation, acquisition and disposition of Fixed Assets.
  • Prepare all monthly and quarterly financial statements.
  • Test amortizations of all notes and mortgages payable. Properly record all related principle reductions and interest expense.
  • Properly recognize short and long term classifications of all notes and mortgages payable.
  • Prepare reconciliations for all bank accounts and resolve all outstanding/in-transit items in a timely manner.
  • Process payroll for all companies including administration of all payroll tax returns.
  • Properly record cash receipts for all entities.
  • Reconcile all petty cash accounts monthly.
  • Prepare monthly rent billings in accordance with the active lease.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts for all non-personal entities and resolve variance issues in timely manner.
  • Process all wire, ACH and bank transfers as requested.
  • Record all inter-company activity.
  • Manage all credit card relationships with banks.
  • Periodically review policies and procedures, carry out appropriate training for accounting staff on changes made to policies and procedures.
  • Continuously perform duties and responsibilities assigned both permanently and temporarily (e.g. special projects).
  • Prepares accurate monthly/quarterly/annual reports for internal and external reporting (for investors, banks, and any compliance requirement) for assigned and/or special project entities and other entities as needed.
  • Review general ledger accounts and prepare correcting journal entries.
  • Analysis of variances to budget with explanation of variances.
  • Communication with other entity analysts regarding transactions affecting their entities.
  • Prepare annual budgets with accuracy and meet all associated deadlines for the entities assigned.
  • Preparation of ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Supports the preparation of monthly cash forecast for internal reporting as needed.
  • Recording all Monthly Equity Pickups and Reconciliation of Investment GL accounts to Equity Accounts.
  • Review material account reconciliations monthly.
  • Become familiar with responsibilities and tasks of the team and ensure key tasks are cross-trained to other associates for back-up/coverage.
  • Supervise Accounting Team associates including regular one-on-one meetings and associate relations issues are documented and managed.
  • Monitor cash accounts and process transactions as requested.
  • Prepare monthly cash, debt and investor capital call reports.
  • Provide ad hoc reporting to senior management upon request.
  • Prepares schedules and support annual external auditors during the examination process.
  • Prepare assigned schedules in conjunction with annual review of consolidated financial statements and meet all associated deadlines.
  • Raise and resolve questions regarding potential adjustments or unusual transactions prior to meetings to prevent surprises in reporting.
  • Strive to achieve that no material accounting adjustments are required post-closing.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics required. Masters degree in accounting preferred.
  • Must have CPA or working towards obtaining CPA.
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience as an accounting manager, assistant controller or controller in the Real Estate Industry (Hospitality, Construction and Multifamily)
  • Must have a strong understanding of GAAP and US Income Taxes.
  • Professional maturity including ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Thoughtful attention to detail and ability to effectively conduct self-reviews of work
  • Flexibility, self-motivated and desire to work in a fast-paced and evolving organization.
  • Management experience preferred with a track record for leading and developing team members.
  • High-degree of professionalism and ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel (including pivot tables, lookup functions).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (emphasis on Excel & Access), Yardi & Sage 300 software experience required.
  • Real estate development industry experience a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
