Role Description The Fire Alarm Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in Cypress, TX. This role is responsible for installing, programming, inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fire alarm and related life safety systems according to applicable codes and manufacturer specifications. Daily activities include reading and interpreting plans, wiring and device installation, system start-up and verification, and documenting all work performed in service and inspection reports. The technician will interact with clients on job sites, explain findings and recommendations, and coordinate with contractors, building staff, and internal team members to complete projects on schedule. The role also involves routine preventative maintenance, participation in on-call or emergency service rotations as needed, and adherence to all company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Strong technical skills in installing, programming, inspecting, testing, and servicing fire alarm and life safety systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and fire alarm system layouts.
- Solid understanding of NFPA standards, local fire codes, and general electrical and low-voltage practices.
- Effective communication and customer service skills for interacting with building owners, contractors, and team members.
- Capability to complete accurate documentation, service reports, and inspection records using digital tools.
- Comfort working on ladders and lifts, handling tools and equipment, and performing physically active field work.
- Relevant licenses or certifications (e.g., state fire alarm technician license, NICET certification) preferred or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and ability to travel to customer sites in the Houston area.
- Prior experience in fire alarm, sprinkler, or low-voltage systems is highly beneficial; apprenticeship or technical training program completion is a plus.
