K-2 Special Education Teacher
SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
Under the direction of the Building Principal and Director of Special Education, the Special Education Teacher will:
- Develop and provide specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities
- Follow state and federal mandated due process procedures as well as district guidelines and regulations
- Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP
- Assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques
- Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals
- Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: eligibility category, present levels of educational performance, student strengths and weaknesses, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals. Parental input statement portion should reflect not only that parent did/did not participate, but any relevant information about their student, how they feel has/has not their student has progressed, medical info or changes, what has/has not worked, and any other concerns they might have
- Participate in weekly professional learning communities to share expertise and work collaboratively to improve teaching skills and student achievement
- Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP
- Provide direction, supervision and evaluation of paraprofessionals as directed
- Establish and maintain student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities
- Employ and implement a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures
- Provide consultation to teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities
- Prepare quarterly reports to reflect student progress
- Perform other comparable duties of a like or similar nature apparent or as assigned
- Complete Distance Learning Plans through SEAS weekly in the event of extended school closures, covid, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
