Position Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety Representative to provide field-level safety oversight for our utility crews. This position is not a trainer role; instead, the Safety Representative will work directly in the field, at job sites and yards, to ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and regulatory standards. The role involves conducting inspections, monitoring work practices, supporting incident response, and reinforcing our commitment to a strong safety culture across all operations.
Essential Functions
- Perform job-site safety inspections and yard audits to verify compliance with OSHA, DOT, NFPA, ANSI, and company safety standards.
- Monitor crews during daily operations, ensuring proper use of PPE, tools, and equipment.
- Conduct field safety observations and provide real-time coaching to employees when unsafe conditions or behaviors are identified.
- Complete and maintain inspection reports, hazard assessments, and corrective action documentation.
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning.
- Support supervisors and foremen in reinforcing safe work practices during job execution.
- Assist with maintaining compliance records, permits, and other regulatory documentation.
- Serve as a visible safety presence in the field, reinforcing the company’s safety culture.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to management and crews in a clear, constructive manner.
- Stay current on applicable safety regulations and industry best practices.
Position Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of safety experience in utility, construction, or energy industry preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, DOT regulations, and utility construction safety requirements.
- Excellent observation, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to build relationships and influence crews to work safely without compromising productivity.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and at active construction sites.
