Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) works as part of the clinic provider team and assists the physicians and nurse practitioners in providing primary health care. The CMA provides limited direct patient care services and performs specifically designated independent procedures. The CMA is directly responsible for performance of patient care functions according to established standards, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
1. Must have a current unencumbered Louisiana Medical Assistant certification.
2. Must have a current Basic Life Support Card.
3. Must demonstrate competency-See competency list.
4. Must be able to withstand 8-12 hours or more of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting.
5. Must possess a general familiarity and competence with Electronic Health Records.
Responsibilities:
A. Attendance
1. Regular and punctual attendance. Individual is at workstation when scheduled and remains for duration of shift.
2. Notifies Director of Nursing or designee and Human Resources of any avoidable absence as soon as possible.
B. Performance
1. Takes and records vital signs, height, and weight, identifies chief complaint, and completes the medical, family and social history within the EHR.
2. Assist patient in and out of clinic to ensure smooth patient flow.
3. Records medication/treatment within the EHR using proper procedure and documentation.
4. Assist physicians and nurse practitioners in health care activities, performance of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures, and the administration of medication as ordered by physicians, physician assistants, and/or nurse practitioners.
5. Collects specimens as needed and delivers them to the laboratory.
6. Performs routine CLIA waived laboratory test in the absence of a Laboratory Technician.
7. Assist in rendering emergency care, including cardiac pulmonary resuscitation.
8. Other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $22.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
