Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear by conducting detailed consultations and understanding their visual needs.
- Dispense spectacle lenses and fit eyewear frames accurately, ensuring optimal comfort and visual clarity for each patient.
- Perform eyewear adjustments, including frame fitting and repairs, to ensure proper fit and function.
- Manage patient records using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Conduct basic eye assessments such as vital signs, pupil responses, and ocular health checks under supervision to support ophthalmology evaluations.
- Process sales transactions using POS systems and cash registers while providing excellent customer service to foster patient loyalty.
- Maintain compliance with state healthcare regulations, health regulation policies, and medical billing standards related to optical services.
- Billing and Coding of optical good and routine eye exams
Experience
- Previous retail optometry or optical laboratory experience is a plus but will train.
- Knowledge of ophthalmology practices, anatomy of the eye, physiology, and medical terminology related to vision care.
- Familiarity with medical billing, coding procedures, and clinic experience in a healthcare setting.
- Hands-on experience with optical lab equipment such as lens edgers, polishers, and frame adjusters.
- Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems like Epic or similar platforms for managing patient records securely.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and health regulation policies at the state level.
- Experience in retail sales environments with skills in retail math, POS systems operation, and customer service excellence.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations accurately for prescriptions, measurements, and billing purposes.
