                  Medical Assistant - Float - Western Colorado Physicians Group
  Job Summary:
Â
Provide basic patient care, nursing tasks, and education under the direction of the physician. To keep exam rooms stocked and maintain clean facilities for patient care and to assist with phlebotomy.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Â
Patient Care - When Covering
- Obtain and chart vital statistics
- Update medication lists
- Perform visual and hearing exams as needed
- Provide patient instruction and education materials
- Make and chart appointments for out-of-office exams
- Prepare, administer and chart medications and injections
- Removal of sutures
- Perform skills from checklist
- Call test results to patients
- Order and schedule various procedures and labs as directed by physician
- Perform and chart diagnostic POC tests
- Update and assist patients in completing forms
- Administer oxygen or nebulization treatment
- Perform EKGs, spirometry, and phlebotomy as needed
- Clean and supply patient rooms
- Track expiration dates on medications and injectables

                 Assisting Physician – when Covering
- Assist physicians with specialized minor procedures
- Preparing urine or semen on slides for microscope
- Calling hospitals as needed for direct admissions
- Triage incoming hospital calls
- Chaperoning physicians as needed during gynecological exams/procedures
- Wrapping/dressing of wounds
- Keep physician informed on his daily schedule
- Perform functions according to physician orders
- Dispense medications at physician direction
                 Administrative
Â
- Complete encounter form
- Listen and respond to all voicemail messages
- Per prior direction of nurse receive faxes
- Per prior direction of nurse refills
- Sending records
- Manually enter labs into patient charts
- Changing daily schedules as needed for the providers
Â
Specific Duties
Â
- Prepare laundry for pick-up
- Calibrate EKG each morning
- Calibrate Spirometers each morning
- Pick up specimens
- Pick up tools
- Nurse appointments (on calls)
- Autoclave
- Back up lab
- Other duties as assigned
Â
Experience:
Â
Must be a Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Office Assistant who is capable of working in a back-office position; caring personality with a positive attitude; calm under pressure and exhibit sound judgment; excellent time management and problem-solving abilities, good communication skills. Must have knowledge of the proper use of medical and lab equipment. Previous medical office experience preferred.
