Desktop Support Technician
Location: Houston, TX 77090 (On-site)
Position Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday – Friday, Standard Business Hours
Pay Rate: $18 to $22/hour DOE
Position Overview
We are seeking a customer-focused and reliable Desktop Support Technician to join an IT team in North Houston, TX. In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for local and remote employees needing technical assistance. You will be responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining desktop/laptop hardware, software, user accounts, and basic network connections to ensure smooth daily business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- User Support & Troubleshooting: Provide timely in-person and remote technical support for hardware, operating systems, and application issues.
- OS & Software Administration: Deploy, configure, and maintain systems running Windows 11 and manage cloud applications within Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive).
- Identity & Access Management: Perform user account administration (onboarding, offboarding, password resets, role-based access permissions) using Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID.
- Hardware Deployment: Set up, image, configure, and deploy desktop computers, laptops, monitors, and peripherals for new hires and hardware refreshes.
- Printer & Peripheral Support: Install, configure, and troubleshoot network printers, local workstations, scanners, and conference room AV equipment.
- Basic Network Support: Assist with basic network connectivity troubleshooting (LAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, IP configuration, cabling).
- Documentation & Ticketing: Log all incidents and service requests in the IT ticketing system, ensuring clear communication and prompt resolution.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 3 years of hands-on technical support or helpdesk experience in a corporate environment.
- Operating Systems: Advanced knowledge of Windows 11 deployment and troubleshooting.
- Productivity Suites: Strong proficiency supporting Microsoft 365 administration and client apps.
- Identity Management: Demonstrated experience with user account management in Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID.
- Networking: Solid understanding of basic networking principles (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, Wi-Fi, VPN configuration).
- Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills, and a strong customer-service mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- CompTIA A , Network , or Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate certifications.
- Experience with automated deployment tools (e.g., Microsoft Intune / Autopilot).
- Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, Freshservice).
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- On-site position located in Houston, TX.
- Ability to lift and move computer hardware up to 40 lbs.
- Participation in standard Monday through Friday schedule, with occasional scheduled after-hours maintenance if required.
