Controller Job Description:
PrideStaff Financial is partnering with a local manufacturing company who is seeking a Controller to join their team. The Controller will lead all accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and cost accounting within the defense and aerospace manufacturing industry. The Controller will report to the CFO and play a critical role in audit readiness, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting. The ideal Controller has multiple years of experience in the aerospace or manufacturing industry, has a clear understanding of financials, cost accounting, tax laws, as well as builds relationships with external customers, auditors, and vendors to support accurate and compliant financials. The Controller position is a full-time, direct-hire position in Miamisburg, OH.
Controller Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead Monthly, Quarterly, & Annual Close Processes With Accuracy & Speed
- Prepare & Maintain GAAP-Compliant Financial Statements & Schedules That Align With Accounting Policies & Procedures
- Maintain Accuracy of The General Ledger & Chart of Accounts
- Establish & Enforce Disciplined Close & Reconciliation Procedures
- Support The CFO in Developing Reporting Packages For Ownership & Potential Investors
- Own The Cost Accounting Functions For Manufacturing Which Includes: Job-Standard Costing, Overhead Absorption, Variance Analysis, Inventory Valuation of Raw, WIP & Finished Goods
- Ensure Cost Structures Are Defensible & Audit Ready (Government & Defense Contracts)
- Work Alongside Operations To Analyze Margins, Labor Efficiency, & Material Usage
- Consistently Improve Cost Visibility & Reporting to Drive Operational Performance
- Serve as The Primary Point of Contact For External Auditors, Leading Annual Audit & Reviews
- Ensure All Financials Are Audit Ready With Well-Documented Processes, Reconciliations, & Support Schedules
- Create, Implement, & Maintain Internal Controls & Support Customer Audits (Including Defense Contractors & Primes)
- Coordinate With External Tax Advisors on Federal, State, & Local Filings
- Support Income Tax Provision, Sales/Use Tax, & Property Tax Compliance
- Ensure Compliance With Relevant Regulatory & Reporting Requirements
- Oversee Fixed Asset Accounting Including Capitalization, Depreciation, & Disposal
- Maintain Detailed & Accurate Fixed Asset Records & Support Capital Expenditure Tracking
- Manage & Develop 1 Staff Accountant Who Performs Accounts Payable, Bank Reconciliations, & General Accounting by Reviewing Work For Accuracy & Completeness
- Drive Improvements in ERP Utilization, Reporting, & Data Integrity
- Establish Clear Processes & Accountability & Implement Scalable Processes to Support Growth
- Identify Automation Opportunities Within a Lean Accounting Function
Staff Accountant Requirements & Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Finance
- 5 Years of Consistent Accounting Experience With Experience in Manufacturing Required
- Expertise With Cost Accounting, Leading Audits & Working With External Auditors
- Previous Experience Supporting & Preparing For a Transaction (Sell-Side Diligence, QoE, or PE-Backed Environment) Preferred
- Solid Experience & Knowledge of GAAP, Internal Controls & ERP Systems
- Superb Attention to Detail & an Eye For Finding Errors & Areas of Improvement
- Must be Able to Build Credible, Diligence-Ready Financials & Cost Structures
- Builds Relationships With Partners, Vendors, Operations, Engineers, & Program Management
- Must be Process-Oriented With a Continuous Improvement Mindset
- Works Wells Under Pressure, Especially During Audits & Transaction Cycles
