RESPIRATORY THERAPIST

Position Description

GENERAL

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for setting up new patients with appropriate services per Physician requests, instructing, following up and continuously monitoring patients with respiratory equipment, and successfully fitting patients with the most comfortable and effective style of mask. The role also requires accurate and detailed documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program
• Current license and continuous updates

• Experience setting up ResMed and Respironics respiratory devices, including CPAP, BiPAP, and Non-Invasive Ventilators
  

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for the following:

Patient Assessment & Equipment Services

• Evaluates the needs of patients scheduled for Oxygen Therapy, PAP devices, Non-Invasive Ventilator, Cough Assist, and Vest Therapy
• Instructs patients on the proper use and care of equipment according to written policies and procedures
• Demonstrates assembly, maintenance, and safe usage of all equipment
• Tracks and maintains follow-up needs for preventative maintenance and home visits
  

Patient Education & Communication

• Explains insurance requirements for compliance and ongoing medical necessity
• Educates patients on diagnosis and findings of sleep study
• Educates patients on insurance fee schedules, deductibles, and co-payments
• Communicates with patients as well as family/caregivers
• Communicates with treating Physicians regarding mutual patients
• Monitors patient usage continuously and follows up with patients
  

Documentation & Account Management

• Maintains detailed and accurate documentation of all patient contact, either in person or by phone
• Performs continuous entry of medical equipment being used, as well as any updates to reflect changes
• Reviews accounts to ensure all required documents are on file before providing services
• Completes all assessments and supporting documentation in a timely manner
• Works daily tasks, voicemails, and emails
  

Additional Responsibilities

• Works on-call rotation
