Overview
As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and other unique needs. Your compassionate support will empower residents to achieve their personal goals and foster independence within a nurturing environment. You will engage in meaningful interactions, assist with daily living activities, and ensure that each resident feels valued and respected.
What you’ll do
- Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting them in daily living activities (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation.
- Monitor patient health by observing vital signs and documenting any changes or concerns.
- Implement care plans tailored to each resident’s needs, ensuring adherence to prescribed medication schedules and dietary requirements.
- Assist with mobility and physical support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Engage residents in social activities that promote community integration and enhance their quality of life.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and social workers to coordinate comprehensive care for residents.
- Uphold all HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality and privacy.
Basic qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in caregiving roles is preferred.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is required.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and team members.
Preferred qualifications
- Previous experience in group homes, assisted living facilities, or nursing homes is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Alzheimer’s care, dementia care, memory care, or hospice care practices is a plus.
- Knowledge of patient monitoring techniques and ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting residents.
