Job Description – Licensed Psychologist (Correctional/Detention Setting)
Position Title: Licensed Psychologist
Contract Duration: Initial 6 Months
Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours/Week
Position Summary
The Licensed Psychologist is responsible for providing comprehensive mental health services to inmates/residents within a correctional or detention facility. The psychologist conducts evaluations, develops treatment plans, provides crisis intervention, and collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure effective mental health treatment and continuity of care.
This position requires the ability to work in a secure environment while delivering professional psychological services to a diverse inmate population.
Key Responsibilities
Psychological Assessment & Evaluation
- Conduct psychological screenings and comprehensive mental health assessments.
- Review medical, psychiatric, and institutional records.
- Perform clinical interviews and diagnostic evaluations.
- Assess inmate mental health status and treatment needs.
Treatment Planning & Therapy
- Develop, implement, and modify individualized treatment plans.
- Provide individual counseling and therapeutic interventions.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment strategies accordingly.
- Utilize evidence-based psychological counseling techniques.
Crisis Intervention
- Provide crisis assessments and emergency mental health interventions.
- Address inmates experiencing acute psychological distress.
- Implement confrontation avoidance and de-escalation techniques.
- Evaluate inmates at risk for self-harm or behavioral escalation.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Psychiatrists
- Physicians
- Nurses
- Social Workers
- Mental Health Service Providers
- Educational Staff
- Chaplain Services
- Security Personnel
- Participate in treatment team meetings.
- Coordinate mental health services and continuity of care.
Correctional Mental Health Services
- Conduct regular rounds in segregation and restricted housing units.
- Assess inmate adjustment to confinement.
- Monitor behavioral changes and mental health conditions.
- Document interventions and treatment outcomes accurately.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Psychology from an accredited college or university.
Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience.
- At least one (1) year in a comparable psychologist position.
Licensure
- Current, unrestricted Psychologist license in the state of practice.
- Valid Driver's License.
Certification
- Current BLS certification meeting CoreCivic compliance requirements.
Additional Requirements
Privileging
- Must be at least Board Eligible to qualify for privileges.
Security Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship is required for ICE clearance.
- Candidates must successfully complete:
- Comprehensive background investigation
- Credit check
- Security clearance process
ICE Clearance Timeline
- Approximately 4–6 weeks from initiation.
- Expedited clearance process available for new activations.

Preferred Qualifications

*Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.
