Job Description:
Position Summary
The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating credentialing and recredentialing processes for physicians and allied health practitioners. This role ensures compliance with regulatory, legal, federal, and state requirements while maintaining accurate provider records and supporting medical staff operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Process initial credentialing and reappointment applications for providers.
- Verify provider credentials including education, training, licensure, certifications, and work history.
- Maintain accurate provider data in the Echo credentialing database.
- Prepare reports and documentation related to credentialing activities, accreditation, and provider privileges.
- Ensure compliance with medical staff bylaws, regulatory standards, and quality assurance requirements.
- Track and monitor license and certification expirations.
- Prepare materials for Credentials Committee, MEC, and Board of Trustees meetings.
- Schedule and maintain records for medical staff department meetings; take meeting minutes when required.
- Process and collect medical staff dues.
- Maintain confidentiality of provider and organizational information.
- Support ongoing accreditation and credentialing audits.
- Perform additional administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of healthcare credentialing processes.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- Proficiency in computer systems and database management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with credentialing software such as Echo.
- Previous healthcare administration or medical staff office experience.
