Schedule: 5x8-Hour Shifts | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Pay: $50 – 60 hourly
Contract Duration: 12 Weeks
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CDI Registered Nurse to collaborate with physicians, coding professionals, and healthcare leadership to improve the accuracy, completeness, and specificity of clinical documentation. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of inpatient clinical care, coding principles, regulatory guidelines, and documentation improvement practices while serving as a key resource for clinical and coding teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct concurrent reviews of inpatient medical records to identify documentation opportunities.
• Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to improve documentation accuracy and completeness.
• Initiate and manage compliant verbal and written physician queries.
• Review diagnoses, procedures, laboratory results, medications, operative reports, pathology reports, and physician documentation.
• Identify complications, comorbidities (CCs), major comorbidities (MCCs), and present-on-admission indicators.
• Support accurate assignment of MS-DRGs, severity of illness (SOI), and risk adjustment measures.
• Collaborate with Health Information Management (HIM), coding teams, physician champions, and organizational leadership.
• Educate providers and clinical staff regarding documentation best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Perform retrospective and post-discharge reviews as needed.
• Ensure compliance with AHIMA, ACDIS, HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and facility documentation standards.
Required Qualifications
• Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) License required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing required.
• Minimum 2 years of bedside nursing experience required.
• Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) experience required.
• Experience participating in clinical quality, patient safety, or performance improvement initiatives.
• CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist) knowledge and experience required.
