This role requires a nurse who is confident in managing both routine and high-risk obstetric situations, possesses strong technical skills in IV insertion and conscious sedation, and can perform effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe and effective care to women during all phases of labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum recovery.
- Monitor maternal and fetal status, interpret EFM (electronic fetal monitoring) tracings, and promptly report abnormalities.
- Assist physicians and midwives during vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and other obstetric procedures.
- Administer medications, including oxytocin, epidural anesthesia support, and sedatives per hospital protocols.
- Perform IV insertions, phlebotomy, and manage conscious sedation in accordance with safety standards.
- Support patients and families through the labor process with emotional, physical, and educational care.
- Collaborate closely with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient care activities in compliance with hospital policy.
- Adhere to infection control, safety, and confidentiality policies at all times.
- Minimum 2 years of Maternal and Child Health experience required.
- Minimum 2 years of IV insertion and phlebotomy experience required.
- Minimum 2 years of conscious sedation experience required.
- Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication, and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams in a high-acuity environment.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN/ADN) from an accredited nursing program required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Active New York State (NYS) RN License – in good standing.
- Primary Source Verification of RN license and registration through the New York State Department of Education (NYSED).
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.
