Roofing Quality Control Inspector

Priceless Home Improvements is hiring an experienced Roofing Quality Control Inspector to join our Maryland production team.

Due to our growing installation volume, we are adding a dedicated quality-control position to inspect completed roofing projects the following day after installation.

This is not an installation crew position and it is not simply a drive-by inspection.

The Quality Control Inspector serves as the company's final independent checkpoint before subcontractor payment is approved.

Your responsibility is to thoroughly inspect completed roofing projects, identify workmanship deficiencies, verify cleanup and property protection, document any corrective work or subcontractor back-charges, and confirm that the project meets Priceless standards.

Primary Responsibilities

• Visit completed roofing projects the following business day after installation.
• Perform a complete exterior and roof-level quality-control inspection.
• Climb and physically inspect residential roofing systems.
• Review installation against the approved scope and company standards.
• Verify proper shingle installation and fastening.
• Inspect ridge caps, starter course, valleys, flashing and transitions.
• Inspect pipe boots, vents and all roof penetrations.
• Inspect chimney and wall flashing.
• Confirm proper ice and water shield / underlayment installation where observable.
• Inspect drip edge, fascia, soffit and roof perimeter.
• Verify ventilation components were properly installed.
• Identify damaged, lifted, missing, improperly installed or visually defective shingles.
• Identify workmanship deficiencies requiring subcontractor correction.
• Photograph and document every deficiency.
• Determine whether an issue should result in a subcontractor back-charge / fine or payment hold according to company policy.
• Create a clear punch list for anything requiring correction.
• Communicate urgent deficiencies to Production immediately.
• Confirm corrective work has been completed when a reinspection is required.

Jobsite & Cleanup Quality Control

This position also audits whether the assigned Foreman properly closed out the project.

The QC Inspector will verify:

• Property is completely cleaned after installation.
• Driveways, sidewalks, porches, decks and landscaping are free of roofing debris.
• Magnetic nail sweep was completed thoroughly.
• Gutters are free of excessive installation debris.
• No materials or trash remain at the property.
• Homeowner's siding, windows, gutters, HVAC equipment and landscaping were protected.
• No visible property damage occurred during installation.
• Excess materials have been accounted for.
• Final jobsite photos were properly completed.
• Required documentation was submitted by the Foreman.
• Yard sign and company property are handled according to company policy.
• All known punchout items were reported instead of being hidden or overlooked.

Foreman Accountability

A major part of this position is verifying the Foreman's QC process.

The Quality Control Inspector is not there to redo the Foreman's job every day.

The inspector should determine:

Was the job actually ready to be marked complete?

If problems are repeatedly being discovered that the Foreman should have identified before leaving the property, those findings should be documented and reported to Production Management.

The purpose is to create accountability at both levels:

Installation Crew → Foreman → Independent QC

Subcontractor Payment Review

Before final subcontractor payment is released, QC findings should identify:

PASS — PAY
Job meets company standards with no outstanding deficiencies.

PASS WITH MINOR CORRECTIONS
Minor punchout work documented and scheduled.

PAYMENT HOLD
Significant workmanship or completion issue must be corrected before payment.

BACK-CHARGE / FINE REVIEW
Deficiencies, property damage, cleanup failures or workmanship issues that qualify for subcontractor deductions under the subcontractor agreement.

The QC Inspector documents and recommends the disposition; final monetary deductions should be approved according to company management policy and the subcontractor agreement.

That separation is important. I would not make the inspector personally decide arbitrary dollar fines in the field.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years residential roofing experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of asphalt shingle roofing systems.
• Able to identify installation deficiencies and workmanship problems.
• Comfortable climbing ladders and walking residential roofs daily.
• Knowledge of flashing, ventilation, underlayment, penetrations and common leak points.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong photographic documentation skills.
• Able to communicate problems clearly and professionally.
• Comfortable holding crews and Foremen accountable.
• Valid driver's license.
• Clean driving record preferred.
• Reliable transportation.
• Smartphone required for JobNimbus/photos/documentation.
• OSHA training preferred.
• Manufacturer roofing certifications are a plus.
• English/Spanish bilingual is a major plus.

Compensation

$26–$34/hour based on roofing knowledge and inspection experience

Target hire: $28–$32/hour

Full-time position with consistent work based on production volume.

The Candidate We Want

We're looking for someone who notices what everyone else missed.

You should be able to walk onto yesterday's completed roofing project and determine whether:

the roof was installed correctly,
the property was properly protected,
the job was properly cleaned,
the Foreman completed their responsibilities,
the subcontractor has outstanding corrections,
and the project is truly ready for payment.

The goal of this position is simple:

Catch the problem before the homeowner does. Correct it before it becomes a complaint. Document it before the subcontractor gets paid.

Pay: $26.00 - $34.00 per hour
