Location: Tucson, AZ
Salary: $120,000 – $150,000

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data across multiple organizations, preparing reports for various stakeholders, and collaborating with internal teams to improve financial processes.

The Controller leads the day-to-day operations of the accounting team and establishes strong processes and procedures to build the financial foundation for scalable success.

Core Responsibilities

Leadership

• Manage the accounting team responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation
• Lead day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, inventory, bank reconciliations, and monthly and annual closing activities and reports
• Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements and internal controls
• Foster a team-oriented environment and mentor accounting team members
• Hire, train, and manage the accounting team members
• Identify team training needs, coordinate training, and regularly evaluate team and individual performance

Financial Controls

• Establish internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation
• Establish and manage processes for accounting policies and procedures; ensure a system of controls is in place for overall financial transactions to minimize risk and maintain transparency
• Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures to ensure operational efficiency and compliance
• Implement robust internal controls and drive process improvements across departments

Accounting

• Lead and review business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets
• Ensure production of periodic financial reports in compliance with GAAP and financial reporting standards
• Monitor cash flow and working capital to maintain fiscal health and operational readiness
• Audit accounts to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations; coordinate with outside auditors and provide required information for annual external audits
• Manage and review comprehensive accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, bank reconciliations, and the general ledger
• Prepare month-end, year-end, and ad hoc financial reports
• Regularly compile and report financial metrics to the leadership team
• Present recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies
• Prepare financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
• Plan for and prepare final financial statements to support annual tax filings
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, MBA preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, including 3 years in a leadership role supervising accounting team members
• Strong expertise in GAAP and accounting principles
• Experience managing accounting functions across multiple companies or entities
• Experience using accounting software platforms
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail
• Demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite skills
• Active CPA license or advanced accounting coursework
• Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems
• Experience working in a regulated environment
• Knowledge of highly regulated industry environments

Physical Requirements

The Controller is required to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time while working on a computer. The position may occasionally require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 25 pounds. The role may also involve occasional bending, stooping, or climbing stairs as required.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Because this role involves hands-on collaboration and operational responsibilities, it is fully in-person.

Travel

Some out-of-state travel may be required. The Controller must maintain reliable transportation to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
