Production Manager, Park Furn & Post Mill Pressure Treating

***Must possess a Commercial Applicator Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) License or obtain the license within six (6) weeks of hire***

Job Summary: Responsible for production management at Lumber Products at UCI, Raiford. Works closely with the Regional Manager to achieve sales and net-income targets, as well as the company’s mission of training inmate workers. Assures safe and efficient industry operations. Works with Regional Manager on business development, process improvement, safety, training, quality, and service functions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

• Operate the assigned departments of the plant under the direction of the Lumber Products Industry Manager in accordance with company policy and directives, FDC rules & regulations and government laws.
• Assures industrial and occupational safety of staff and inmate workers in each department.
• Collaborates with Regional Manager and Sales Staff on customer order fulfillment.
• Builds and maintains department staff and inmate workforce in each department and ensures sufficient bench strength is maintained for continuous and uninterrupted production.
• Schedules department production to assure customer order promised dates are met and manages inventory associated with assigned departments.
• Works with Shipping Supervisor to ensure shipping operations are efficient and directly controls any customer order expediting needs.
• Assures products meet specifications, quality standards and implements approved product updates and process improvements.
• Assists the Regional Manager with new business development projects authorized through the company’s new business development approval process.

• Establishes and maintains excellent working relationships with FDC staff.
• Provides direct input to the Regional Manager to ensure sales and services result in profitable revenue contribution.
• Continuously identify process improvement opportunities and collaborate with company kaizen leaders on implementation.
• Assists the Regional Manager in the development and management of the annual sales and capital budget.
• Interface with all PRI staff & departments, customers, vendors, and consultants.

Education and Experience: 4-year degree with major in business administration or marketing and/or 5 to 10 years’ progressive experience in management, production, quality, operations, or related field. Profit and Loss experience. Must possess a Commercial Applicator Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) License or obtain the license within six (6) weeks of hire.

Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and orally, with peers, subordinates, staff, upper management, customers, and Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) personnel to conduct the functions of the production. Ability to read and interpret complex documents such as invitations to bid, safety regulations, operating manuals, budgets, company policies and personnel rules/procedures. Ability to speak effectively before groups inside and outside of the production.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical, algebraic, and statistical operations. Ability to articulate and make projections based upon historical information and anticipated deviance. Ability to use computer formulas to plan and organize raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve complex and practical problems dealing with people and things where a variety of skill and experience is required to arrive at a solution. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to analyze and disseminate information for the purpose of planning and developing projections. Ability to understand and guide others to be successful in getting the job done.

Specialized Knowledge and/or Skill: Operation of personal computers, spreadsheets, word processing software, communications programs. Familiar with other office machines and equipment to include multi-line telephones, copier, and fax machines. Familiar with standard office practices, filing, record keeping, and generally accepted accounting practices. Must be proficient in the areas of the company's information management system that are applicable to this position, as well as understanding Lean Manufacturing Principles.

Other Skills and Abilities: People/leadership skills. Personal time management. Honest, straightforward, dependable, pleasant, adaptable. Acquire FDC training to supervise inmate workers, Basic computer skills (Excel, Word Dynamics) and knowledge of accounting principles.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is regularly required to stand, controls, use feet to operator pedals of a vehicle and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is exposed to fumes or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud – the dust level is high.
