The Donor Relations & Communications Specialist supports the organization’s fundraising and development efforts by building meaningful relationships with donors and creating opportunities for ongoing engagement and support. This position manages a portfolio of small and mid-level donors and plays a key role in donor stewardship, monthly giving, first-time donors, annual appeals, donor communications, and agency communications. The Donor Relations & Communications Specialist also plans and coordinates donor and community appreciation events. This position also coordinates awareness month activities and leads the agency communications and marketing.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Donor Engagement and Management
Manage a portfolio of small and mid-level donors ($1 - $1,500), developing and maintaining meaningful relationships that encourage donor retention, increased engagement, and continued financial support. Develop and implement personalized stewardship strategies based on donor interests, giving history, and engagement. Steward first-time donors through thoughtful and timely welcome, acknowledgment, and follow-up communications. Develop and maintain stewardship for in-kind donors. Coordinate and support donor-led donation drives that benefit Prevail in partnership with operations team. Identify and action on opportunities to prospect new donors. Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor information and document donor interactions in the organization’s CRM. Collaborate with development, special events, programs, finance, and operations staff to support an integrated donor experience. Cross-train on operational and administrative functions that support the work of the development team and provide backup support as needed, including gift acknowledgments, invoicing, campaigns, and other CRM related data entry.
Monthly Giving Program
Manage and support the organization’s monthly giving program, including donor recruitment, onboarding, stewardship, and retention. Develop communications and engagement strategies to promote monthly giving and increase participation. Monitor monthly giving activity and identify opportunities to strengthen retention and grow the program. Coordinate with operations and finance staff to address donor questions, payment issues, and other administrative needs related to recurring gifts.
Annual Fundraising & Appeals
Partner and design annual fundraising appeals, including messaging, audience segmentation, timelines, creative development, mailing lists, and distribution. Coordinate fundraising communications across email, direct mail, digital channels, and other appropriate platforms. Track campaign results and identify opportunities to improve donor engagement and fundraising performance.
Communications, Marketing, and Impact Reporting
Develop, coordinate, and manage all agency communications that strengthen relationships and demonstrate the impact of donor and community support, including agency newsletters, donor-specific communications, press releases, social media content, website content, and other communications. Maintain agency’s social media calendar. Recommend, design, and manage vendor relationships for agency’s promotional items and other marketing materials. Design and develop annual impact report and corresponding communications that connect donors to the organization’s mission, programs, and outcomes. Lead awareness month committee and develop communications and engagement opportunities, including email communications, social media channels, press releases, educational content, fundraising activities, and other communications. Ensure organizational communications are timely, accurate, compelling, and consistent with organizational messaging and brand standards.
Donor and Community Engagement Events
Plan and coordinate donor-focused events, including donor appreciation events, community partner appreciation events, and other engagement opportunities. Coordinate event logistics, invitations, communications, guest lists, vendors, volunteers, and follow-up. Develop strategies to use events as opportunities for donor stewardship, relationship building, and increased engagement. Coordinate post-event stewardship and follow-up to strengthen relationships with attendees and supporters. Represent Prevail at assigned community events.
Qualifications and Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, fundraising or related field or demonstrated knowledge of resource development. This includes a knowledge base of community resources such as private and public grant sources, etc. Must have computer experience including: Outlook, Word, Excel, CanvaPro, WordPress, social media platforms, and donor database management. At least 2 years of experience in similar environment. Individual must have demonstrated knowledge of marketing, public relations, donor relations, and resource development.
Competitive compensation package including employer paid medical, dental, vision, life, short & long term disability, paid time off, and paid holidays. Salary commensurate with education and experience (salary range $52,000-$60,000).
