Heavy Equipment Operators
Preston Contractors is looking for heavy equipment operators with strengths in running a GPS Dozer, and Production Excavators. This position will require strong heavy equipment skills, experience with grading/earthmoving, and proficiency with GPS machine control systems (like Trimble/Topcon) for precise work, plus site safety knowledge. Applicant must have proven experience in operating dozers, understanding site plans, attention to detail, and communication for accurate, efficient project completion in construction, mining, or land development.
Responsibilities:
- Operates equipment including excavator, dozer, backhoe and other heavy equipment.
- Performs routine daily maintenance on all trucks, trailers and heavy equipment, including fueling, servicing and minor mechanical repairs.
- Prepares daily reports of equipment hours, inventory and fuel used. Communicate with Mechanics for truck and equipment repair.
- Coordinate with crew members in response to hand and/or audio signals.
Heavy Equipment Operator Requirements:
Core Qualifications & Skills
- Heavy Equipment Experience: Proven hands-on operation of bulldozers and similar heavy machinery.
- GPS Machine Control: Familiarity with GPS systems (Trimble, Topcon) for grading and earthmoving.
- Grading & Earthmoving: Understanding of site plans, blueprints, and precise cut/fill operations.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to perform pre-op checks, basic maintenance, and troubleshoot equipment.
- Safety: Knowledge of site safety protocols.
- Soft Skills: Strong hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, communication, and teamwork.
- MUST have 1-4 years experience operating Bulldozers and Excavators.
- Proficient in rock breaking, lot clearing, pad building, grading.
- Ability to read and interpret plans.
- A proven safety record.
- Must have experience performing pre-trip inspections and day to day maintenance on Heavy Equipment.
- Valid Driver's License. CDL not required but it might be helpful.
- Follow all company safety policies including taking specific action to avoid other workers, other equipment, and potential obstructions and marked or unmarked utility lines.
