Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Surgery Authorization Representative to join our healthcare team. This role involves verifying insurance benefits, obtaining authorizations, and ensuring compliant pre-registration processes for surgical patients. The ideal candidate will have high-volume healthcare call experience, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent patient service.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1-2 years of medical insurance verification and authorization experience
• General knowledge of medical terminology
• High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate required
• Preferred: typing speed of 30 words per minute, ICD-9/10 and CPT coding knowledge, excellent customer service and phone etiquette skills, proficiency with common computer applications, and experience in patient interviewing
• Preferred certification: Certified Health Access Associate (CHAA)

Responsibilities

• Verify health insurance benefits and eligibility using electronic systems or by contacting payers directly
• Obtain and follow up on necessary authorizations at least 48 hours prior to scheduled services
• Ensure pre-registration is complete at least 7 days before scheduled procedures
• Advise patients about copayments, coinsurance, and policy limitations, collecting amounts as needed
• Reschedule or follow up with patients if authorizations are not obtained timely
• Maintain accurate and organized documentation of all authorization and verification processes
