Job Summary:
The Elevator Modernization Technician is responsible for upgrading and replacing outdated elevator systems and components to ensure compliance with current codes, improve safety, performance, and aesthetics. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical skills, familiarity with various types of elevator systems, and the ability to work on-site in a safe, efficient, and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dismantle, remove, and replace outdated elevator components such as controllers, motors, door operators, cables, and fixtures.
- Install and wire new electrical and electronic components according to technical drawings, specifications, and safety codes.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose operational issues during modernization projects.
- Perform inspections and testing of modernized systems to ensure proper functionality and code compliance.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on-site.
- Collaborate with modernization teams, engineers, and project managers to ensure timely project completion.
- Complete documentation, including daily reports, safety checklists, and service logs.
- Adhere to all OSHA, local, state, and national elevator safety codes and company safety policies.
- Communicate clearly with clients, building personnel, and team members regarding progress and any issues encountered.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Completion of an elevator apprenticeship program or equivalent experience.
- 3 years of experience in elevator modernization, installation, or repair.
- Strong understanding of elevator systems, including traction and hydraulic units.
- Proficient with electrical wiring, schematics, and mechanical tools.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams.
- Physical ability to work in tight spaces, at heights, and lift heavy components.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
