Position Summary
We’re seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Middle School Math Tutor to join our growing team in Hagerstown.
The ideal candidate must be able to tutor 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math, including students enrolled in magnet or merit programs who may be taking Middle School Algebra I and Geometry.
Tutors should also be comfortable preparing students for MCAP (Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program) exams, helping them strengthen content mastery, test-taking strategies, and confidence.
Strong knowledge of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized, one-on-one or small-group instruction in middle school math
- Support students in grades 6–8, including those in magnet and merit programs taking Algebra I and Geometry
- Prepare students for MCAP math assessments through targeted review and practice
- Reinforce essential concepts such as fractions, ratios, algebraic reasoning, equations, and geometry
- Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans tailored to each learner
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding progress and goals
- Track and document student performance accurately and consistently
- Create a positive, growth-minded learning environment that promotes confidence and curiosity
Qualifications
Required
- Must be able to tutor 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math, including Algebra I and Geometry
- Experience preparing students for MCAP or state-standardized math assessments
- Teaching or tutoring experience with middle school students
- Strong communication skills, professionalism, and reliability
- Degree or active enrollment in Mathematics, Education, or a related field
- Reliable transportation and ability to pass a background check
Preferred
- Strong understanding of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards
- Experience supporting magnet or advanced-track students
- Familiarity with IEPs/504 plans and differentiated instruction
- Ability to make complex math concepts engaging, relatable, and accessible
