Summary & Scope of Position:
The Controller is the most senior member of the accounting team and trusted partner for the CFO. This is a director level position responsible for managing global accounting functions, financial reporting, and internal controls. The Controller will be expected to build their team, insource currently outsourced accounting functions and help prepare the company for an eventual IPO.
The Controller will oversee all accounting, lead systems implementations and enhancements to align with the company’s strategic goals, oversee all external financial statement audits, reporting and internal control domestically and internationally. This includes building/maintaining a cohesive and effective staff; day-to-day management of departmental staff; modifying and maintaining policies; continually seeking mechanisms to streamline and automate processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret and apply GAAP and other authoritative accounting standards
- Establish & improve controls including say no as needed
- Ensure close process is streamlined and supportive of backend internal and external reporting requirements
- Build an accounting team and manage a growing staff
- Lead the strategic selection, implementation and/or upgrades of systems and/or ERP modules required as part of the company’s strategic global expansion
- Own consolidations and cost accounting
- Manage banks, tax firms, external auditors, valuation experts, and other third-party experts
- Lead, participate in or perform ad hoc projects or other related duties as required
Qualifications/Requirements/Skills:
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of current and developing GAAP standards
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 10 years related experience required
- Active CPA license and multi-years of experience with an auditing firm preferred
- Med device (especially neuromodulation) and start up experience preferred
- ERP implementation experience
- Experience managing external audits
- Experience managing accounting function in a dynamic, growing, manufacturing company
- Demonstrated managerial capability to initiate and make improvements to processes and procedures
- Strong communication skills – written and verbal; ability to, coordinate and interact with, board level, executive management, middle management and personnel within other departments;
- Ability to construct financial & other reporting models to assess and report performance.
Physical Demands:
- Varied sitting, standing, and walking
- Ability to lift and carry 50lbs. or less.
- Ability to come to the office as needed.
