The Preservation Society of Charleston (PSC) is a member-supported nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the historic character, quality of life, and cultural heritage of Charleston and its surrounding areas. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, the Preservation Society serves as a trusted preservation resource for residents and visitors alike. A dynamic calendar of member-exclusive events, public programs, tours, workshops, and volunteer opportunities is central to fulfilling this mission. The Events Coordinator supports the planning and execution of these experiences, helping create meaningful opportunities for people to connect with Charleston's history and the work of historic preservation.

Reporting to the Director of Programs and Learning, this position plays a key role in delivering exceptional experiences by coordinating event logistics, assisting attendees, managing registrations, and supporting event operations before, during, and after programs. In addition, this position provides field support to the Communications and Advancement teams by capturing photos and gathering content during events and programs, ensuring timely documentation and sharing of materials for use in marketing, publications, and social media.

Job Duties:

· Monitor ticket sales and registrations, maintain event records, and support accurate tracking systems, programs, and special events.

· Assist the Director of Programs and Learning and Advancement staff with day-of setup, event logistics, and breakdown.

· Provide exceptional customer service and professional communication to members, volunteers, event attendees, partners, and the public.

· Answer the events phone line and email, respond to event questions, assist attendees with ticket purchases, and troubleshoot ticketing issues.

· Coordinate check-in, including preparing attendee lists, assisting late arrivals, and communicating with registrants as needed.

· Assist with volunteer support for the Fall Tours, including answering questions, distributing materials and supplies, and helping ensure volunteers have what they need to be successful.

· Attend internal and external meetings as deemed necessary or as assigned, and work as a team with all departments at PSC.

· Capture and organize photos, participant stories, and program highlights during events, and provide timely content and information for use in publications, newsletters, website updates, and social media.

· Assist with outreach to community partners, vendors, and rental inquiries as assigned.

· Attend community and networking events as necessary to build relationships and promote the PSC.

Knowledge and Experience:

Required Qualifications

· Excellent customer service skills

· Excellent organizational skills

· Ability to maintain neat and structured staging areas on or off-site

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, and SharePoint

· This is an in-person position requiring regular attendance at the Preservation Society of Charleston office and at programs and events throughout the year. Remote work is minimally available for this role.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience coordinating events, educational programs, or tours

· Experience with customer service, hospitality, museums, nonprofits, or public-facing programs

· Knowledge or interest in historic preservation and Charleston history

· Experience using EveryAction, ticketing platforms, registration systems, or similar databases

· Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and a commitment to high ethical standards.

Physical Requirements:

The position requires the ability to move throughout event spaces, often outdoors and at historic properties, for extended periods; frequently bend, lift up to 40–50 lbs.; and visually monitor event sites. The role balances active, physical demands during events with periods of computer-based planning and administrative work.

Transportation:
A personal vehicle is required for this position, as travel between event sites throughout the Charleston area is frequently necessary. Mileage reimbursement is provided for approved work-related travel in accordance with the Preservation Society's reimbursement policy.

Schedule:

Full time, Exempt. Irregular hours are required, including some evenings and weekends for events.
