Position Details

Type:​​​​ Full Time Exempt

Salary: $85,000; Includes full benefits package of 20 PTO days, 14 paid Holidays, 4-day weeks in July and August, 403(b) matching, health, vision and dental insurance

Position Description: 

The Director of Education is responsible for maintaining dynamic education programs that foster the mission of preserving the architectural, historical, and botanical heritage of Palm Beach and support the Foundation’s project at Phipps Ocean Park.  Programs are created to suit the needs of students of all ages, and the institutions they attend.

The Director of Education is a full-time position reporting to the Vice President, and is responsible for developing and implementing multi-disciplinary learning opportunities for pre-K and K-12 students, which can be informal or curriculum-based, utilizing architecture, history, the environment, and historic preservation. As well as coordinating the Foundation’s internships and scholarships offered to college-level students. 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Evaluate current education programs and prepare new education programs in accordance with the Foundation’s mission, while meeting the curriculum standards as required by the School District of Palm Beach County.
• Enhance, evolve, and expand educational curricula, including updating existing curricula, creating new curricula, or expanding current programs to new locations.
• Implement and oversee Foundation internships and scholarships.
• Implement and oversee the Foundation’s Heritage Education program including all planning, scheduling, and instruction.
• Implement and oversee the Foundation’s Little Red Schoolhouse Living History Program including answering inquiries, scheduling, ordering supplies, and overseeing the LRS schoolmarm staff.
• Coordinate and facilitate dynamic programming at Phipps Ocean Park. The park's revitalization is a current Foundation project, set to open in 2025.  This exciting project provides a wealth of educational opportunities, which will likely include many partnership opportunities with other organizations.
• Oversee the Foundation’s educational programming at Phipps Ocean Park to ensure that project goals are met and the park functions as an educational resource for people of all ages in the community.
• Coordinate scheduling of education programs for both instructors and attendees.
• Implement educational programs at designated locations both on- and off-site.
• Ensure educational sites are prepared for classes.
• Plan and implement professional development workshops for educators.
• Recruit, train, and evaluate education associates, assistants, and volunteers.
• Prepare materials for educational programs, educational events, and instructional programs.
• Manage community outreach to promote the education programs and resources of the Foundation.
• Facilitate teacher and student access to the Foundation archives through regular communication with the Foundation archivist.
• Collaboratively develop new field trips as needed.  Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of all field trips.
• Direct and evaluate part-time educators; encourage their participation in the development and implementation of outreach programs, teacher professional development, and collaborations.
• Develop and maintain collaborative projects and programs that complement the Foundation’s mission.
• Assist the programming team with planning, preparation, and implementation of events as needed.
• Maintain a yearly budget for the Education Department.
• Assist staff with Foundation business, including daytime and evening events.
• Other duties as assigned.

Major Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree is required, and a Master’s degree is preferred, ideally in education
• Two years’ experience teaching and navigating Florida’s public school system
•  Interest in historic preservation or architecture highly recommended
•  Excellent interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills; and the ability to effectively utilize technology in support of these skills
• Outstanding analytical, research, and writing skills
• Experience with teaching, public speaking, and presenting to groups
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, exciting non-profit environment with a group of professionals who are dedicated to the mission of the Foundation
