What are the responsibilities and job description for the Proto Trak Machinist position at PRESCOTT METAL?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Confirm that all safety devices are in place and operational.
- Program and run Bridgeport style manual machines, 2-3 axis with Proto-Trak controls
- Maintain log of preventive maintenance on a daily/weekly schedule according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Select, position, and align tooling in machine tool holder to confirm they are secured.
- Sharpen and maintain tooling for peak performance; notify the supervisor of worn or broken tooling.
- Adjust to set specified pressure and tool clearance.
- Set cut dimensions using controls from print details.
- Position work piece against stops securely.
- Measure work-piece dimensions throughout the operation to assure quality and repeatability.
- Recommend tooling to perform the job more efficiently.
- Startup, operate and shut down manual milling machines following established procedures and all manufacturers’ safety requirements.
- Alert supervisor of any problems and suggests changes that will allow jobs to run more efficiently.
- Observe tool and machine operation to detect work-piece defects or machine malfunction.
- Maintain tooling inventory including consumables.
- Keep work area neat and orderly, including clean-up of metal chips.
- Maintain material storage and cutting fluid as required.
- Help manage workflow and materials within the machine shop.
- Notify the supervisor of worn or broken tooling.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned to help Tee Enterprises achieve its goals.
Inspection Requirements:
- Verify quantity, material type and thickness.
- Check for any material defects or damage.
- Verify correct orientation of all pieces.
- Check all size dimensions on first piece to verify correct tooling setup.
Minimum Qualifications/Technical Knowledge Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent or trade school certificate and or 3-5 years’ experience preferred.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Understand Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Identify material types.
- Proficient in Proto Trak machine programming.
- Proficient in Machine tool setup.
- Read job specifications to determine adjustments.
- Read tape measure, dial caliper, depth gauge, micrometer, dial indicator, and other various measuring instruments.
- Ability to convert decimals to fractions when working with work orders/blueprints.
- Ability to operate the forklift/pallet jack.
