What are the responsibilities and job description for the Powder-Coating Operator position at PRESCOTT METAL?
Looking to add to our Powder Coating Team Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm OT available
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Confirm that all safety devices are in place and operational.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks.
- Ensure product hooks are sufficiently clean to achieve proper grounding.
- Verify hanging method is safe and effective.
- Pick up and hang parts as required on overhead conveyor.
- Phosphate and dry parts thoroughly.
- Mask and plug all areas required.
- Tack cloth parts as required.
- Powder coat parts according to Job Traveler (work order).
- Move parts on overhead conveyor to the curing oven, set oven temperature to curing specifications.
- Perform cure test and mil spec test to assure quality and repeatability.
- Keep work area neat and orderly to avoid slips, trips, and falls.
- Consider pallet weight and stacking methods to maintain safe capacity.
- Adhere to all weight ratings on the overhead conveyor.
- Maintain log of preventive maintenance on a daily/weekly schedule according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Alert supervisor of any maintenance or repairs that require outside services.
- Observe equipment operation to detect defects or equipment malfunction.
- Notify the supervisor of any problems and suggest changes that will allow jobs to run more efficiently.
- Once certified, operate the battery-operated pallet jack.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned to help Prescott Metal achieve its goals.
Inspection Requirements:
- Verify print specifications match the work order specifications.
- Verify masking and quantity of the order to be powder coated.
- Check for any material defects or damage that will not provide the required finish specification.
Minimum Qualifications/Technical Knowledge Required:
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Interpret Job Travelers (work orders).
- Identify material types.
- Knowledge of pressurized systems.
- Knowledge of powder-coating operations.
Physical Demands/ Work Conditions:
- The Powder Coater stands for 8-10 hours per day, walking, stooping, and reaching, as well as frequently lifting manually and/or moving material up to 50 pounds.
- Typical manufacturing environment, subject to dust, metal shavings, machinery oil, and powder coating.
Required Personal Protective Equipment:
- Safety Glasses.
- Aprons are optional.
- Ear Protection mandatory when phosphating, respirator recommended.
- Gloves when handling material.
- Dust mask while powder coating.
- Safety shoes.
