What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laser/Punch Operator position at PRESCOTT METAL?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Confirm that all machine guarding and safety devices are in place and operational, on the Amada punch/laser.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks.
- Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, ruler, or template.
- Sharpen and maintain tooling for peak performance.
- Maintain log of preventive maintenance on daily/weekly schedule according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Alert supervisor of any maintenance or repairs that require outside services.
- Observe tool and machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
- Maintain all tooling.
- Notify Engineering/Programming of worn or broken tooling.
- Notify the supervisor of any problems and suggest changes that will allow jobs to run more efficiently.
- Keep the area clean, neat and orderly to prevent slips, trips, and falls.
- Consider pallet weight and stacking methods to maintain safe capacity.
- Restock and maintain inventory of material drops/maintain material storage.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned to help Prescott Metal achieve its goals.
- Inspection Requirements:
- Verify material type each sheet.
- Verify material thickness each sheet.
- Check for any material defects or damage.
- Verify grain direction if applicable each nest (combination of jobs on one sheet).
- Verify quantity of each nest.
- Check all hole sizes on first piece to verify correct tooling setup.
Minimum Qualifications/Technical Knowledge Required:
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to interpret Job Travelers (work orders).
- A valid forklift operator license and certified on the battery-operated pallet jack.
- Understand cut lists and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Ability to identify material types and gauges of metal.
- Ability to read job specifications to determine machine adjustments.
- Ability to read tape measure, Vernier, and dial caliper.
- Convert decimals and fractions, related to what shows on the Job Traveler/blueprints.
- Understand how to position sheet stock against clamps as per job specifications.
Physical Demands/ Work Conditions:
- The operator stands for 8-10 hours per day, walking, stooping and reaching, as well as frequently lifting manually and/or moving material up to 50 pounds.
- Normal exposure to production/manufacturing environment subject to dust, metal shavings, machinery oil, and powder coating- and occasional office environment.
- Frequently working with machinery that has pinch points and rotating parts.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:
- Safety Glasses—or two forms of eye protection while operating grinders (safety glasses & face shield).
- Gloves when handling material.
- Earplugs while machinery is operating.
- Safety shoes.
