Company Description Prescott House Child Advocacy Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring hope and reducing trauma for children who have experienced abuse, violence, or other forms of victimization. Serving children and families throughout Jefferson County, Alabama, Prescott House provides forensic interviews, trauma-focused counseling, family advocacy, prevention education, and multidisciplinary team coordination in a safe, child-friendly environment. As one of the nation's oldest Child Advocacy Centers, Prescott House is committed to evidence-based practice, compassionate care, and collaboration with law enforcement, child protective services, medical providers, prosecutors, and community partners to promote healing and justice for children and families. Our counseling program provides specialized, trauma-informed mental health services to children and families impacted by abuse and violence, helping clients build resilience, strengthen relationships, and move toward healing


Prescott House is seeking a compassionate, trauma-informed, full-time therapist to provide counseling services to children, adolescents, and non-offending caregivers impacted by abuse, violence, and trauma. The therapist will play a vital role within Prescott House’s multidisciplinary team approach by helping children and families heal in a safe, supportive, and child-friendly environment.


The ideal candidate is clinically skilled, collaborative, emotionally mature, and committed to best practices in trauma-focused care. This position requires the ability to work effectively with children who have experienced complex trauma while partnering with caregivers, multidisciplinary team members, and community providers to support healing and resiliency.


Essential Responsibilities

Clinical Services

• Provide trauma-informed, evidence-based counseling services to children, adolescents, and non-offending caregivers and siblings. 

• Conduct clinical assessments, treatment planning, documentation, and discharge planning. 

• Utilize evidence-based therapeutic modalities appropriate for child trauma treatment.

• Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical records in accordance with agency policies, ethical standards, HIPAA requirements, and applicable laws. 

• Provide crisis intervention and support for clients and families as needed. 

• Participate in case consultations and multidisciplinary staffing meetings. 


Collaboration & Advocacy

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team partners including law enforcement, DHR, prosecutors, medical providers, schools, and community agencies. 

• Support caregivers in understanding trauma responses and strengthening protective factors within the family system. 

• Assist families in accessing appropriate community resources and support services. 

• Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients, caregivers, and partner agencies. 


Organizational Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with the Alabama Network of Child Advocacy Centers (ANCAC), National Children’s Alliance (NCA) standards and Prescott House policies and procedures. 

• Participate in staff meetings, supervision, trainings, and professional development opportunities. 

• Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven work environment. 

• Support agency outreach, education, and awareness efforts as appropriate. 

• Maintain professional licensure and continuing education requirements. 


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or related behavioral health field. 

• Current Alabama licensure or license eligibility (ALC or LPC, LCSW, LICSW, LMFT, or equivalent). 

• Experience working with children, adolescents, and families impacted by trauma. 

• Knowledge of child development, trauma, abuse dynamics, and trauma-informed care principles. 

• Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and communication skills. 

• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment. 

• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical clinical practice. 


Preferred Qualifications

• Independent clinical licensure (LPC, LICSW, or LMFT). 

• Specialized training in trauma-focused treatment modalities such as TF-CBT, EMDR, TraumaPlay, or Theraplay. 

• Experience working within a Child Advocacy Center or child welfare setting. 

• Bilingual skills are a plus. 


Physical & Emotional Requirements

• Ability to engage compassionately with children and families experiencing trauma. 

• Ability to manage emotionally intense situations with professionalism and resilience. 

• Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the facility as needed. 

• Ability to occasionally attend community meetings, trainings, or court-related activities.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position. Occasional evening or community-related activities may be required.
