Rate: $19.54-$25.72 per hour DOE; Job Classification J, PLUS, employer-paid retirement, and generous benefits package
Hours: 35 hours per week; 174 days

Overview: The job of “Media Assistant III", is done for the purpose/s of maintaining operation of overall media center; library collections, implementing age-appropriate programs, utilizing resources, selecting materials in support of classroom instruction, complementing classroom instruction with media and computer technology, educating students on the proper use of the library resources, instruct others on audiovisual equipment and computers. This position works in collaboration with the technology facilitator and/or principal to support technology for students and staff. 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Prior job-related experience in media, and in delivering elementary-level instruction
  • Regular attendance needs to be maintained
  • Two years of postsecondary study in an academic program, or
  • An associate's (or higher) degree, or
  • A passing score on a state or local academic assessment that measures knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics when available.

  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
  • Knowledge of basic computer coding/programming
  • Skills to operate standard media equipment including computer applications
  • Use English in both written and verbal form
  • Use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records.
  • Knowledge of Dewey decimal system
  • Processing materials
  • Maintain equipment (e.g. overhead projectors, VCRs, printers, computers etc.).
  • Abilities to prepare materials for library use, perform semi-skilled repair and maintenance work on various types of equipment (e.g. overhead projectors, VCRs, printers, computers etc.) and orient others in equipment operations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Multicultural Competency

Preferred:

  • Bilingual
  • Experience working with diverse student populations preferred

License, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (cost to the employee: $12.50 for fingerprints; $75.00 for criminal background check – one-time payroll deduction)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or the ability to obtain

Position Details:

  • Assists less experienced employees and/or vendors for the purpose of ensuring assignments are completed appropriately.
  • Conducts classes in a variety of formats for the purpose of promoting the use and employment of literature/media.
  • Coordinates requests of individuals and/or sites (e.g. technical support, equipment requirements, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of audio-visual equipment for instructional use.
  • Distributes and/or circulates books, materials and media.
  • Evaluates audiovisual equipment and software/hardware applications for the purpose of making repairs, providing technical support, diagnosing malfunctions and/or recommending acquisitions.
  • Instructs library volunteers, staff, students, and patrons for the purpose of teaching the operation and uses of audiovisual equipment, computers, library resources, classification system, card catalog, and care of materials.
  • Inventories equipment and materials in library collection for the purpose of documenting losses and/or maintaining the availability of materials.
  • Prepares equipment and materials for the purpose of providing requested equipment in operation condition.
  • Processes orders, books, materials and media for the purpose of maintaining library collection.
  • Procures equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining an inventory of audiovisual equipment, computers in operating condition and in conformance with site needs.
  • Promotes library use related to special holidays, seasonal activities, etc. for the purpose of motivating students to use the library resources.
  • Repair various equipment (e.g. overhead projectors, VCRs, printers, computers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in a safe and operating condition.
  • Researches availability of materials and media for the purpose of selecting appropriate items.
  • Utilizes telecommunication systems for the purpose of providing students, staff, parents, and community with access to library resources.

Other Job Functions:

  • Budget – Processing purchase orders and remaining within confines of district budget limits.
  • Order books, supplies, videos and equipment for library.
  • Maintain, operate and instruct students to use the media system and the computer lab.
  • Make decisions in accordance with established regulations and policies of the library and collect data for State Reporting.
  • Prepare for and direct media-related activities to students in order to give certified staff planning time.
  • Organize book clubs and fairs throughout the school year if directed by the principal.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Assists staff, students, and patrons for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.
  • Operates equipment for the purpose of providing delivery of media.

Physical Requirements:

 

In a five (5) hour day the Media Assistant III may:

  • Stand/walk – 3 – 4 hours
  • Sit - 2 – 4 hours
    • Bend, kneel, squat, climb stairs or ladders
    • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Requires continuous reaching, bending, crouching, twisting, kneeling and the repetitive use of arms, hands, wrists and legs

The Media Assistant III will need:

  • Near/far visual acuity, depth perception, unaffected field of vision, unaffected hearing, ability to talk/converse and the ability to evacuate students from classrooms/building.
