The Facilities Technician oversees the preventative and responsive maintenance of our 5-acre campus. This vital role ensures the safety, functionality, and beauty of our sacred spaces—including our church buildings, preschool, playground, and surrounding grounds—so that our ministries and community programs can thrive.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED
- Proven experience in facilities maintenance, building systems, or groundskeeping.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or landscaping tools and techniques.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., with or without assistance, and perform physical tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to move about the campus over various terrains and surfaces.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
While candidates are not required to be Presbyterian or hold any specific faith affiliation, they must demonstrate respect for the beliefs and practices of our members, visitors, and all who use our property.
The selected candidate will need to pass a background check, due to the presence of the Growing Tree Preschool.
Duties
Many of these duties are performed by external vendors or using volunteer help. The incumbent will help to direct and oversee the work of volunteers and vendors as needed.
Property Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance across all buildings, including the sanctuary, offices, fellowship hall, and preschool.
- Respond to maintenance requests promptly, addressing issues related to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting, and general repairs.
- Coordinate with vendors or contractors for repairs when needed.
Grounds & Exterior Care
- Maintain mature landscaping, including trimming large trees, clearing debris, and ensuring safe walkways coordinating with volunteers, lawn care vendor and outside vendors.
- Monitor and maintain two large retention ponds, ensuring proper drainage and compliance with local regulations.
- Inspect and maintain perimeter fencing for security and integrity.
- Support seasonal property needs (e.g., storm prep, holiday setup, etc.).
Safety & Stewardship
- Ensure all facilities meet safety standards and are in good working order for staff, congregants, and preschool families.
- Maintain a log of maintenance activities and report any major concerns to church leadership.
- Assist with setup and breakdown for events as needed.
Administration
- Work in partnership with the Chair of the Property Committee, contributing to monthly Session report, assisting in the preparation of the annual budget, and attending committee meetings.
- Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule and ensure its execution.
- Make recommendations for equipment replacement based on age and performance, as needed.
- Obtain estimates for repairs or installations that exceed the technician’s scope of expertise, and review proposals with church leadership prior to approval and scheduling.
- Maintain records of maintenance, procedures and equipment manuals for historical documentation and reference.
- Liaise with community groups using PCPH grounds for meetings and events to address any issues with space or resources provided.
- Attend monthly Session meetings as needed
Additional duties may be required.
Most hours will be performed on weekdays during daylight hours. The successful candidate will be able to set their own schedule within certain parameters following a successful 90-day probationary period.
Please Note: Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent may be required to work additional hours as needed. Advance notice will be given whenever possible and any hours that cannot be flexed out of the normal 20-hour work schedule during a payroll cycle will be paid at the same hourly rate. This position may not work more than 29 hours in a week without permission from the Pastor.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate can:
- Move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs, with or without assistance of appropriate equipment such as dollies, carts or other assistive devices.
- Communicate effectively with Property Elder
- Move throughout PCPH buildings and grounds, based on activity location
- Operate standard office equipment, such as computers, printers, and copy machines, while remaining in a stationary position
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
