Independent Grocery Store General Manager
Eastern Shore of Maryland
An established, community-focused independent grocery store on Maryland's Eastern Shore is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead daily operations and help shape the future of a locally owned business.
This is an opportunity for a hands-on leader who is passionate about independent retail, developing strong teams, delivering exceptional customer service, and driving operational excellence. The General Manager will have significant influence over store culture, merchandising, department performance, and long-term growth.
What You'll Do
- Lead all day-to-day store operations
- Recruit, develop, coach, and inspire department managers and store associates
- Drive sales, profitability, and overall store performance
- Ensure outstanding customer service throughout the store
- Monitor financial performance, labor, inventory, shrink, and operating expenses
- Partner with department managers to improve merchandising, merchandising standards, and in-stock conditions
- Maintain high standards for food safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance
- Foster a positive, accountable, team-oriented culture
- Build relationships within the local community while supporting locally sourced products and vendors
Qualifications
- 5 years of grocery retail management experience
- Previous experience as a Store Manager, General Manager, or multi-department leader preferred
- Strong leadership and team development skills
- Experience managing financial performance, labor budgets, and operational metrics
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
- Independent grocery experience is a plus
Salary : $80,000 - $100,000
