Location: Remote (PST, MST & CST highly preferred)
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday
Compensation: $100 to $110 hourly, depending on experience.
Our client seeks a temporary Senior Manager or Director of Accounting Operations to support the team while a permanent replacement is found.
We are looking for an experienced accounting operations leader who can step in, quickly establish credibility and run a complex monthly close. You’ll provide operational accounting leadership, orchestrate the monthly close end-to-end, review work prepared by the Accounting Operations team, support audit efforts, and drive a portfolio of automation and process improvement.
You’ll report to the Head of Technical Accounting. The engagement is expected to start as soon as possible and run for approximately five months, with an option to extend depending on business need.
Responsibilities:
- Orchestrate close activities and review work prepared by the Accounting
- Operations team—partner with a Senior Accountant and a Staff Accountant to prioritize close deliverables, share guidance and feedback on work product, surface and resolve blockers, and drive on-time, high-quality execution against close deadlines and audit milestones
- Own the monthly close—inherit ownership of the close calendar in Numeric, manage close dependencies across the team and cross-functional partners, coordinate stakeholders across Finance and Accounting, and escalate timeline risks and blocker that could impact close quality or timing
- Serve as the primary operational reviewer across recurring close reconciliations, journal entries, allocations, and intercompany work prepared by the Accounting Operations team
- Support audit efforts—contribute to audit planning and readiness, coordinate auditor requests, gather and review supporting documentation, resolve open items, and serve as one of the key auditor-facing partners for the external audit
- Drive automation and process improvement—execute and prioritize the automation initiatives already identified across process simplification and workflow automation; find practical ways to reduce manual effort and improve scalability; leverage the full tooling stack across NetSuite, Numeric, AI and LLM-based tools, Superhuman-built tools, and other practical solutions
- Support the transition to the future-state Accounting Operations organization, helping operationalize the structural and process changes underway
- Strengthen operational resiliency—maintain adequate process documentation, improve resiliency, and reduce key-person dependencies across the team
- Build cross-functional partnerships across Finance and Accounting to keep close, audit, and improvement workstreams aligned
Experience:
- 8 years of progressive accounting experience, positioned at the Senior Manager to Director level, with direct ownership of monthly close in a multi-entity, international operating environment
- High-growth industry experience at a company & $200M revenue REQUIRED; pre-IPO technology company experience preferred
- Proven ability to ramp quickly in unfamiliar environments—establish context rapidly, build credibility, lead people, and drive outcomes with limited supervision
- Prior people-leadership experience—coaching, prioritization, accountability, and development of Senior- and Staff-level accountants in earlier roles
- Hands-on NetSuite experience and proficiency with a modern close management platform (Numeric, FloQast, BlackLine, or similar)
- Track record of leading automation and process-improvement initiatives across an accounting function—practical use of AI, LLMs, and modern tooling focused on operational scalability and process improvement rather than experimentation
- Strong audit support experience—comfortable serving as one of the key auditor-facing partners for an external audit
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work under time constraints in fast-moving environments
- Big 4 audit foundation strongly preferred; active or inactive CPA preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication—capable of producing close summaries, audit responses, and process documentation that an executive audience can act on with minimal editing
- Has a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance, proactively manages tasks and priorities across multiple projects, analyzes and executes work efficiently, collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams, and thrives in fast-paced, results-driven environments
- NetSuite
- Numeric (preferred)
- FloQast, BlackLine, or similar close management platforms
- Coupa or other enterprise procure-to-pay system
- AI and automation tools
- Modern close management platforms
- Enterprise accounting systems
