JOB SUMMARY:

The Automation / Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, programming, and supporting PLC control systems and industrial automation solutions across multiple manufacturing facilities. This role works closely with operations, engineering, and production teams to improve manufacturing efficiency through automation, robotics integration, and process optimization. The position plays a key role in supporting equipment performance, troubleshooting manufacturing systems, and implementing automation initiatives that enhance productivity and reduce operational costs.

Key performance objectives are:

  • Design and support PLC control systems and industrial automation solutions.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency through automation, robotics, and process optimization.
  • Troubleshoot and support machine control systems and production equipment.
  • Analyze production data to identify opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Support automation initiatives that increase output, improve quality, and reduce costs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design, develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC control systems and industrial automation systems.

Write and maintain software for automation and machine control systems while ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Develop and maintain PLC programs including system maintenance and optimization.

Program and support industrial robots to ensure reliable and efficient operation.

Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to integrate robotic hardware and software solutions.

Develop and maintain standard work instructions for manufacturing and production processes.

Lead or support the selection and implementation of automation equipment to increase production output and reduce operating costs.

Provide technical support to manufacturing operations including troubleshooting equipment and supporting fabrication processes such as cutting, punching, welding, and painting.

Analyze production data and reports to identify opportunities for improvements in methods, tooling, equipment utilization, productivity, and quality.

Work with vendors to define equipment specifications and support capital equipment purchases that enhance manufacturing capabilities.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

Strong collaboration with engineering, production, and operations teams is required.

Ability to work independently while supporting cross-functional engineering initiatives.

Travel to multiple manufacturing facilities will be required.

EXPECTED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

5 years of manufacturing engineering or PLC programming experience in an industrial manufacturing environment preferred.

Hands-on experience with metal cutting, forming, and welding processes, including robotic welding.

Experience with machine design and machine control systems, including writing control logic for PLCs and CNC controls.

Demonstrated knowledge of equipment controls, PLC programming, automation systems, and robotics integration.

Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies (Green Belt or Black Belt training is a plus).

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple engineering priorities in a manufacturing environment.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Approximately 25–30% travel to company manufacturing facilities to support automation initiatives, engineering projects, and operational improvements.
