The Buyer/Planner is responsible for the procurement, planning, and scheduling of materials required to support the manufacturing and assembly of a class III medical device. This role ensures the timely availability of components, subassemblies, and finished goods through effective forecasting, supplier management, and production planning. The position requires close collaboration with Quality, Engineering, Production, and Regulatory teams to maintain supply continuity, compliance, and product safety.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage purchase orders from requisition to receipt, including change orders, order prioritization, past due orders, and acknowledgements.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers; Communicate common supplier problems with relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in CAPA and NCR processes related to supplier quality or material nonconformances.
- Support key supplier quality initiatives such as supplier scorecards, quarterly business reviews, and audits.
- Translate demand planning outputs into plans that maintain optimal inventory levels to balance service and working capital targets.
- Create, release, and track manufacturing work orders in both the ERP system and through the production environment.
- Report on work in process (WIP) inventory levels; Drive initiatives to reduce aging WIP when necessary.
- Coordinate production schedules with Manufacturing and Quality Teams to support regulatory build requirements.
- . Manage critical ERP system data such as item attributes, product lifecycle information, and vendor information.
- . Partner with Supply Chain and Operations Leadership to establish and maintain safety stock levels for purchased components, sub-assemblies, and finished goods.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of purchasing experience supporting a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in inventory management, purchasing, supplier management, and distribution in a regulated industry.
- Large and small company experience, ideally in a startup environment with an entrepreneurial attitude and spirit.
- Six Sigma training or certification is desired but not required.
- APICs certification a plus.
