Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and ensuring comfort throughout their visit
- Assist healthcare providers with clinical procedures such as dermatology treatments, phlebotomy, medication administration, and basic life support protocols
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), ensuring accurate and timely documentation of patient information, diagnoses (ICD coding), and treatment plans
- Support medical administrative tasks including appointment scheduling, patient intake, insurance verification, and maintaining medical records
- Conduct patient education on medications, treatment instructions, and health management strategies based on physiology and anatomy knowledge
- Perform in-clinic duties such as specimen collection, preparing exam rooms, and assisting with outpatient or inpatient procedures in hospital or trauma center settings
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols related to emergency medicine, hospital medicine, and level I or II trauma center standards
Experience
- Prior experience working in outpatient clinics, hospital medicine, urgent care centers, dermatology practices or emergency departments is highly preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and electronic health records management
- Experience with phlebotomy, medication administration, and basic life support certification is required
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, ICD coding and medical documentation best practices is essential
- Previous inpatient or hospital experience at a Level I or Level II trauma center will be considered an asset
- Familiarity with medical office management tasks such as scheduling, insurance processing, and patient service excellence is desirable
- Strong understanding of medical assisting procedures across diverse specialties including geriatrics and emergency medicine
