What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist position at Premier Orthopaedic and Hand Center?
Medical Billing Orthopedics & Pain Management
Location: Flossmoor, IL (100% On-Site)
Experience Level: 3.5 Years Specialized Experience
Software: eClinicalWorks (eCW)
Position Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated medical biller to join our team on-site at our Flossmoor office. This role is critical to the financial health of our practice, specializing in the high-volume, high-complexity fields of Orthopedics (Joints and Hand) and Interventional Pain Management.
The ideal candidate understands that a "clean claim" begins before submission and doesn't stop until the payment is posted and the aging report is clear. We need a professional with the technical mastery to navigate complex surgical coding and the legal savvy to manage Workers’ Comp, Personal Injury (PI), and Attorney Liens.
Key Responsibilities
- Presubmission & Precision Coding: Perform rigorous "clean claim" reviews. Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for orthopedic surgeries and pain procedures (epidurals, nerve blocks, RFAs) with 95% accuracy.
- Rejection & Denial Management: Actively monitor front-end clearinghouse rejections and back-end payer denials. Investigate root causes, correct errors, and take full ownership of the resolution within eClinicalWorks.
- Persuasive Appeals: Draft professional, clinical, and highly technical appeal letters to payers to overturn denials and secure appropriate reimbursement.
- Payment Posting & Reconciliation: Accurately post insurance and patient payments from EOBs and ERAs. Perform daily balancing and identify underpayments based on contracted rates.
- Aging & AR Recovery: Take full ownership of the Aging Report. We do not believe in "letting accounts sit"—you will proactively hunt down outstanding balances and resolve roadblocks.
- Multi-Payer Expertise:
- Commercial: Navigate prior authorizations and medical necessity requirements.
- Workers' Comp: Manage specialized forms, fee schedules, and direct adjuster communication.
- Personal Injury & Liens: Track legal cases, manage Letters of Protection (LOPs), and communicate with law firms to protect the practice’s interests.
Qualifications & Skills
- Attendance: Ability to work 100% on-site in Flossmoor, IL. (This is not a remote or hybrid position).
- Software Proficiency: Experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW) is preferred. Must be comfortable with EMR/RCM interface, claim analysis, and reporting.
- Specialty Expertise: Minimum of 3.5 years of experience specifically in Orthopedic and/or Pain Management billing/coding.
- Coding Mastery: Deep knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT (specifically for joints, hand, and interventional pain).
- Legal Savvy: Proven experience handling Personal Injury cases and Attorney Liens. * Writing Excellence: Exceptional ability to draft clear, technical appeal letters that reference payer policies and clinical necessity.
