Position Overview:
The Payroll and Benefits Manager will oversee the organization's payroll operations and employee benefits administration, ensuring accurate and timely processing while providing exceptional service to our staff and athletes. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can maintain confidentiality and adapt to the unique needs of a professional sports league.
Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for all league employees and athletes, including front office and player compensation, utilizing PLL’s payroll system, Vensure
- Administer front office and player benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits, including enrollment
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions for a disaggregated team of remote employees and players
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly
- Manage payroll system and Employee Master File to ensure both accurately reflect employee information including status, titles, classifications and other key data
- Oversee TimeCo hourly tracking and approval process to ensure compliance and timely submissions
- Process and track all payroll deductions including health benefits and retirement, garnishments, child support, etc
- Assist with Variable compensation (commissions and bonus) tracking, calculation and administration
- Coordinate with Finance department on budget planning and forecasting related to compensation and benefits expenses
- Coordinate with Human Resources regarding onboarding process, including documentation and personal information gathering
- Serve as the primary point of contact for staff and athletes regarding payroll and benefits inquiries
- Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes affecting payroll and benefits administration, including company-specific compensation equity assessments
- Complete statutory payroll reporting requirements for government, tax, insurance and other compliance requirements on deadline
- Prepare and analyze payroll and benefits reports for leadership team
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, or related field
- 3 years of experience in payroll management, preferably in sports or entertainment
- Proficiency with payroll systems (Vensure) and HRIS platforms
- Strong understanding of federal and multi-state tax regulations
- Experience with benefits administration and compliance (ACA, COBRA, ERISA)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Experience working with seasonal or variable compensation structures preferred
- Understanding of or interest in professional sports business operations
Compensation:
- Full-Time Position with $80,000 - $90,000 salary, 10% eligible bonus plan and equity
- Based on the candidate’s experience, seniority, and location
- The total compensation package includes Annual Bonus, Health, Life, Dental, and Vision Insurance, 401(k) plan, Equity Sharing, Mental Health Stipend, Unlimited PTO, and Paid Parental Leave
