We’re working with a growing automation and custom machinery business looking to add an Electrical Design Engineer to their engineering team.
This is a hands-on role focused on the electrical design and integration of custom industrial equipment and automation systems. You’ll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle — supporting machine design, electrical documentation, system integration, and commissioning activities for complex automation projects.
It’s a great fit for someone who enjoys technical problem-solving, collaborating across engineering teams, and delivering high-quality electrical designs for real-world manufacturing applications.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Produce electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring documentation using EPlan
- Develop and maintain electrical designs in line with NFPA and ISO standards
- Support machine integration, debug, and commissioning activities during build and startup phases
- Work closely with Controls Engineers, Project Managers, Manufacturing teams, and Customers throughout project delivery
- Assist with electrical component selection, BOM generation, and design standardisation
- Support troubleshooting of electrical systems and machine functionality both internally and on customer sites
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of new design technologies and processes
What They’re Looking For:
Successful people in this role tend to be detail-oriented engineers with strong technical knowledge, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
You’ll likely have:
- Experience producing electrical designs and schematics for industrial automation or machinery projects
- Strong working knowledge of EPlan or similar electrical CAD software
- The ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical schematics and control systems
- Experience working with industrial control systems including Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley platforms
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both customers and internal teams
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience
Preferred Experience
- Experience working within automation, special purpose machinery, or capital equipment environments
- Familiarity with HMIs including Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, or Beckhoff
- Experience with safety PLCs, safety devices, and fail-safe electrical design principles
- Exposure to robotics, machine vision systems, or commissioning activities
- Experience supporting projects through installation, startup, or field service phases
Why This Role?
This position offers the opportunity to work on complex automation and custom machinery projects from concept through completion, with strong exposure to electrical system design, machine integration, and cross-functional engineering collaboration.
