Duties
- Greet patients warmly and assist with check-in and check-out procedures using various EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, and others.
- Verify patient insurance coverage through insurance verification processes and ensure accurate documentation review for billing and coding purposes.
- Schedule appointments efficiently using medical scheduling software and coordinate with medical staff to optimize clinic flow.
- Handle multi-line phone systems with professionalism, providing clear information and directing calls appropriately while practicing excellent phone etiquette.
- Manage medical records by filing, retrieving, and maintaining patient files in compliance with HIPAA regulations and health information management standards.
- Assist with billing procedures including medical collection efforts, CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, and Medicare claims processing.
- Support administrative functions such as data entry, typing reports, maintaining office supplies, and supporting clinic management tasks.
- Verify insurance benefits and process claims accurately to facilitate smooth reimbursement cycles.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and ensure compliance during documentation review.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, and others.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding standards, and medical billing practices.
- Proven experience in medical collection efforts and insurance verification processes within a clinical setting.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations; bilingual abilities are a plus.
- Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), typing (10 key), and familiarity with office management software like Office365 or Google Workspace.
- Ability to handle clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, multi-line phone operation, and document management efficiently.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure privacy and security of health information at all times.
- Prior clinic or dental office experience is highly desirable; familiarity with dental terminology or hospital experience is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for documentation review and care plan coordination.
