What are the responsibilities and job description for the Garage Mechanic position at preload?
Preload is seeking a Garage Mechanic to join their growing team. The Garage Mechanic performs the maintenance, service, repair of diesel/gas-powered trucks and equipment, either in the shop or in the field, by performing all duties of a skilled mechanic. Pay is in the $24/hr to $28/hr with competitive benefits.
- Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
- Inspect the engine and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
- Use hand tools as well as power tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, cordless tools, welding equipment and hoists.
- Examine and adjust protective guards and specified safety devices.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment and machinery.
- Test drive trucks and heavy equipment to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
- Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
- Assess defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as multi meters, schematics, or pressure gauges.
- Repair or replace wiring, lights, and instrument panels.
- Diagnose and repair vehicle heating and cooling systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or general education degree
- Two to five years of mechanical experience (must have own tools)
- Experience as a diesel mechanic in a garage environment is preferred
